Minnesota Wild Deaf/HOH Hockey program needs players
Hello, MN Hockey Community!
You, or someone you know, could be part of an exciting new initiative: the Minnesota Wild Deaf/Hard of Hearing (HOH) Hockey program.
We’re currently seeking deaf and hard of hearing individuals of all ages to play hockey in an environment that’s specially adapted to their needs. There’s no cost to participate in the program. However, all players must be registered with Minnesota and USA Hockey, and participation is in addition to their current association, club or league play.
Players will be divided into groups according to age and ability. While games follow standard USA Hockey rules, nonverbal cues such as strobe lights and sign language alert players to stoppages and enable them to communicate with each other.
In short, the Minnesota Wild Deaf/HOH Hockey program is intended to help participants build confidence and self-esteem — ultimately achieving success, both on the ice and in everyday life.
